Day 26 – Favorite dynamic duo (or triple threat, etc)
:D ♥ ♥
Day 25 – Favorite win of all-time
well, the championships, of course. but let’s just say those 4 games kind of share a totally different plane of their own. i have to go with 82-50 as my favorite. the energy in that building was unreal. and there was SO MUCH riding on that game - the rivalry, the ACC regular-season championship, the undefeated season in cameron, the seniors’ last chance to beat the heels at home, the emotion of senior night in general… the pressure would have crushed a lesser group of guys, i think. and believe me, there were nerves galore in cameron. the heels had been playing a little better toward the end of the season, and there were some eerie parallels to 2006. and then the game started, and the big three each hit a three-pointer, and before anyone quite knew what was happening, the rout was on. and then it was just a two-hour fiesta. LOL. amaaaaaazing night. i wouldn’t trade that memory for anything in the world.
honorable mention for favorite win goes to 1) the beatdown of texas in which JJ scored 41 points, 2) the 2009 win over wake forest in cameron and 3) the game against maryland in cameron in 2009 where we just destroyed them.
Day 24 – Favorite piece of Duke merchandise that you own
wow. i own a lot. like, a lot, a lot. i keep threatening to lay out all my tshirts together and take a picture. it’s insane how many tshirts i have. of all the official merch i have, i think right now i love my “Coach K’s 1000th Game” tshirt the best. because i was there for that game, and it was a really, really cool day. and then, in the long run, it turned out to be the pivotal game of the season, because zoubs started for the first time and tore up the twerps and well… the rest is history, yeah?
i also have a dark grey waffle-weave thermal that i love a lot, but that’s just because it’s super comfy and i like the colors.
i have a sneaking suspicion that dave’s championship book will soon be my favorite, though, because it’s supposed to have some of my photos in it. =)
in terms of unofficial stuff, my faves are my autographed pics of all the guys from last year’s Countdown. ♥
wow, there is so much truth in this one chart!

Day 23 – A moment that almost gave you a heart attack
i’ll skip the obvious, hayward-induced moment and go with one from earlier in the season. in the thugs, inc wake forest game, mason went down really hard on his hip and just started immediately writhing around on the ground in agony. that was terrifying, especially since he’d already fought back from the wrist injury. and freaking FSN (at least i think it was them) just kept showing his agony from different angles. argh.
in truth, i probably have 4.3 million heart attacks a season, though. that’s what happens when you live and die with every bounce. :P

Day 22 – A bittersweet/touching moment
this doesn’t need a lot of explanation, but it does need a couple of pics…
Lance Thomas, at the welcome-home celebration in Cameron.
[Day 21 – Favorite quote from any player (past or present)]
Nolan, Seth, Dre, Josh, and Casey at the Duke Athlete Welcome Night :)
nolan & seth look adorably happy here, but my favorite thing about this picture is that look on dre’s face. he was not as amused by whatever was funny. LMAO.

Day 20 – A song that reminds you of Duke basketball
the first one that springs to mind is david cook’s “heroes”. i suspect i’m supposed to actually post the song, but i don’t have it in mp3 format. the reason i associate it with duke bball is that i used it in my season highlights video last year, and it turned out to be perfect. so whenever i hear the song now, i visualize the video clips in my head. :)
other choices would be “party in the USA” or “glitter in the air”, but those are for very different reasons. LOL.
Day 19 – Describe your 2010 Championship experience (where you were, what you did, who you watched it with, how you felt, etc, etc!)
not a very interesting story on my end… i worked that day, but i made sure to leave early enough to get home before the game started. (which was 6-something out here on the west coast.) and i don’t think i breathed again till it was over. i watched on my couch, all alone, because there’s no way i could have watched with other people unless they were diehard duke fans. LOL.
it’s funny - when i think back now, i barely remember anything but the ending. by then i was standing and rocking back and forth from foot to foot and chewing on my own shirt. just dying, basically. and when hayward took that shot, i never believed it was going in, because it was such a hail mary. so i was basically celebrating from the instant he was forced to shoot it from halfcourt. and then i saw the replays and i was like, oh shit, that was close. LOL. but there was a lot of muffled screaming (i had neighbors) and jumping and a weird sort of dry crying where i was choking back sobs but no actual tears were involved. and then there were awesome post-game things, and then jon posted that ridiculous tweet with his friend’s phone number and i laughed for like twenty minutes. and then i stayed up much of the night re-living the whole thing. luckily, i had already asked for the next day off from work. heh.
and that’s my story!
Day 18 – Picture of your favorite
alumnialumnus, and 5 reasons why he’s your favorite
(sorry, my three years of latin in high school will not allow me to post that error. :P )
so, anyone who reads this tumblr and doesn’t already know who my favorite is… well, you’re not paying much attention. LOL. i’ve been all about the schey since about the fourth game of his freshman year. after JJ graduated, i didn’t know what i was going to do. but i had seen that article on jon in ESPN The Mag (the one i posted last week or something), and i was intrigued. then once the season started, it took very little time for me to realize that i was in trouble with this one.
i really could go way past 5, but i’ll leave it at that. also, i feel the need to state that my appreciation of senor scheyer does not mean that i don’t care about any other duke alums. he just has a special place in my heart.
Day 15 – Favorite thing about the Duke/UNC rivalry
so, i’m skipping days 13 and 14, because i refuse to soil this tumblr with baby blue of any kind. :P having said that, my favorite thing about The Rivalry is the tradition. it’s been going on foreverrrr, and it’s just sort of magical. i also love that both teams are usually near the top of the rankings, which leads to the games being great and meaningful in addition to being part of the tradition.
Day 16 – Favorite thing about any other rivalry with Duke
my favorite thing about our not-rivalry with maryland is their inferiority complex. LOL. i love the “not…our…rivals” chant and “sweat, gary, sweat”. so funny. what i do NOT like is their asshole fans. they go waayyy over the line. but it makes me proud that the Crazies don’t stoop to that level in return. i really wonder if it’ll be as intense this year, though, with the departure of general greivis. and the fact that the twerps aren’t likely to be very good.
Day 17 – Favorite Cameron Crazie chant
in addition to the ones directed at the twerps, i love “[blankety-blank]’s win-ning” when one of our guys is outscoring the entire other team. LOL. “JJ’s winning” was a frequent occurrence, and also fit the cadence the best.
it needs to be october right the hell now, ‘s all i’m saying. and i get to watch in HD this season for the first time! LOL.
wishing the happiest of birthdays to my very favorite boy. ♥ ♥ ♥
this occasion calls for scheyer spam, but i’m way too tired. maybe if i don’t work too late tomorrow.
at least he doesn’t have to start classes on his birthday this year. LOL.
