so, for those who may not know, jon’s sister, brooke, has a company called Brightest Star Foundations, which manages jon’s foundation in addition to others.  the company is up for a philanthropy award.  brooke is awesome, so you should all vote for her.  =)  this is the email she sent out today:

Recently, Brightest Star Foundations was nominated for a “Classy Award,” (or the Academy Awards of philanthropy), hosted by a website called StayClassy.org, a social media and fundraising website for non-profit organizations across the country.

And out of hundreds of nominations, BSF was chosen as one of five finalists for Philanthropic Small Business of the Year in Chicago. Now, it’s up to the voters to choose which small local business will move on from this regional round to the national level. Which is where YOU come in!

Your vote can help BSF achieve national recognition and even a $10,000 contribution for our clients’ foundations!

so there’s a lot of excitement around these here parts about jon signing with the clippers.  not to rain on anyone’s parade, but just to be sure everyone understands - it’s a training camp contract.  he still has to make the team.  he has a reasonably good chance to do so… but nothing’s final yet.

hmm… i think i’m most looking forward to a) watching this group come together as a unit, since it’s so different from last year’s group, and b) watching some of the less-heralded guys go to work, in particular miles and dre, who’ve been overlooked by the prognosticators.  and also c) winning.  :D

i loved this dude this past year… he was very obliging about posing for me whenever he saw my camera pointing his way. LOL. even in houston.  i’m sad that he decided to hand over the reins to a new guy.

Day 27 – Favorite moment in Duke Basketball history

i feel like it’s a cop-out that i keep choosing things from this past season or two, but… this season was magic.  just pure magic. kind of like a fairytale, with the struggles the seniors had gone through, and the adversity some of the guys faced during the season.  and the way everyone wrote this team off when G and elliot left.  i wanted this so bad for this group of guys, but i didn’t really dare to hope. i kept sort of peering through one eye, waiting for the awful moment when we’d lose in the tourney and have to watch the inevitable reactions of the team. and then… we kept winning instead, and that awful moment never came.  magic.  it’s been five months, and i still can’t really believe we won it all.  amazing.
